One of my favorite things to do is peruse a friend’s personal library. It’s fascinating to me, and I think it truly is one of the best ways to begin to get to know someone fast. Some of my best conversations with new friends have started in front of either theirs or my personal bookshelf.
I take reading in spurts. Sometimes I’m inspired to cozy up and get swept away in the promise of a new adventure found in the pages of a book. At other times I realize that life has moved at a different pace and it has been way too long since I’ve slowed down long enough to linger over the pages of someone else’s thoughts. My thoughts alone were so full.
This summer, though, I decided to say “yes” to reading 10 books and to the possibility of experiencing some meaningful journeys within each one. For me, this was quite the feat, and I did it!
After looking back at the journey, I’m really happy to say that every single book that I enjoyed is recommendable. Every one was well written and impacted in its own beautiful way.
My Favorite?
Because each book was so good, and because the genres were a bit diverse, choosing a favorite was extremely difficult. Yet, if I must, I think I’ll vote for Without Reservations, the travels of an independent woman, by Alice Steinbach, as my number one…with literally every other one as honorable mention :).
I’m Curious…
As a new friend, what do you see and learn about me from perusing my personal summer library?
And after looking at my selections, what books would you recommend that I take up for the fall?
Happy Travels,
Amy
Ten Books I Read This Summer
Wow! I’m so impressed that you read ten books this summer! My reading drops waaaayy off every summer, but especially this one with a big move and the gift of having all five kids home for 2.5 months. The best books I’ve read recently are Between Two Kingdoms and Dearly Beloved. I just bought two of Harrison Scott Key’s books, How to Stay Married and The World’s Largest Man. I love the looks of these you’ve listed here! Travel memoirs are some of my favorite too! Adding to my TBR list!
