The Practice of Lingering

One way to "travel with one eye on the world and the other eye on Jesus"

To Linger

• to remain or stay on in a place longer than is usual or expected, as if from reluctance to leave

• to be slow to act

• to continue to stay

• the act of delaying; inactivity resulting in something being put off until a later time.

I always challenge Big Story Living travelers that one of the best ways to travel with one eye on the world and the other eye on Jesus is to embrace the practice of lingering.

What Can It Mean to Practice Lingering?

Incorporate these intentions into your next travel adventure if you want to open up opportunity for your adventure and faith to collide, offering a fuller travel experience than you ever expected. It’s not difficult. You just have to step onto any street with intentionality and space, both in your schedule and in your self.

Be captured and then…

Linger so long that it begins to feel uncomfortable.

Linger long enough to discover what's on the other side of the discomfort.

Embrace being present to the present and to the Presence.

Then savor what you find, forgetting for a moment where you were headed…believing that THIS is where you were meant to be.

Worth the linger, right?

Yet it could have been so easily missed and left unsavored.

The truth is that in order to practice lingering you first must embrace wandering in wonder, and both of these practices are contrary to how the world teaches us to travel.

On every Big Story Living Journey the table is set for travelers to enter into wide open space each day with a posture of expectancy. We slow the pace and practice wandering at the pace of Jesus, ready to receive the gifts that come our way which we could have never planned…never could have known that we needed.
