Wanderlust 101
Spring is that time of year when the change of season has happened, and the itch to getaway is real, but the calendar shows you still have to be patient just a little while longer. Here are a few ideas of how you can satisfy your wanderlust while you wait. Give a few of them a try! You’ll be surprised at how a few moments of intentional curiosity can bring delight to your waiting.
Have lunch at an international restaurant you have always passed but never had the nerve or time to try. Chat with the owners. Be curious about the menu. Enjoy the decor. Take photos. Don’t just eat and run. Take all of your senses to lunch.
Take a walk through your city or town, but turn down streets you’ve never walked. Be on alert for every little crack, leaf, sign or view that catches your eye. Stop to watch the bird or savor that smell or be curious about the story of that old house. Delight in taking zoomed in pictures of the details that capture you.
Research to find a labyrinth in your town. If you discover one, go walk it with curiosity. Read more here. Even if the only one you find is at a church that is not your own, go. Labyrinths are almost always open to whomever desires to walk.
Watch a movie that was made in a part of the world you long to explore. Make a big deal of the experience. Don’t simply watch the movie. Prepare snacks or drinks from that state or country where the movie takes place, and plan a whole event as if you are making it a full travel experience.
Get curious in nature.
Ask your neighbor to teach you how to cook or bake something from their culture.
Host a themed brunch or happy hour for friends. For example…everyone creates and brings a charcuterie board of goodies from their favorite country or the location of their most memorable vacation. When you gather, everyone shares the stories of why this was their favorite getaway.
Whatever you do to satisfy your wanderlust in the coming weeks, may your curiosity fill you up and satisfy you until you get to hit the road for your next big adventure!
Happy Travels!
