Frequent Flyer Boot Camp #1 - Gathering Miles Fast (1)

amycolon.substack.com

If you are counting on your own personal flying to rack up the frequent flyer miles, you might want to think again. Unless you’re a corporate business traveler, they will never add up fast enough. The accumulation of enough miles will take forever and you will grow weary of the wait, ultimately believing that frequent flyer miles are a joke. But I promise, they are not!

The fastest way to take to the air ASAP is with a mileage credit card. (Note: I do not condone going into debt for any reason…not even travel. So first off, make sure you are able to handle a credit card responsibly by paying it off each month. Otherwise, watch for future posts on other ways to save money and fly cheap.)

There are lots of mileage credit cards out there within two different categories: bank mileage cards and airline mileage cards. For our purposes I will often be referring to the two that I use the most and believe are the very best options for my travel goals right now. There are many other cards available to you and they all generally work the same. As we go, I’ll tell you why I love Chase and AA. If those aren’t your cards of choice, rest assured that all the knowledge here will generally transfer to most cards that are available in the marketplace today.

My two favorite mileage credit cards for individual use are:

Chase Sapphire Preferred®

Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® Mastercard®

*I am not sponsored by any company

In upcoming posts I will explain the ins and outs of each and so much more about how the frequent flyer game is played. For now, I’m including links below and a short explanation to let you see just how quickly you can reach your travel dreams by simply applying for a mileage credit card and starting to use it.

Don’t get lost in the jargon you find on these card sites below. It can be overwhelming and difficult to process. That’s why I’m here. In upcoming posts I will explain everything you need to know.

Until then…consider applying for one of these cards if you want to get started today towards your travel dreams. By the time it arrives in the mail I will have posted lots more information to help you better understand the ins and outs of flying for almost free.

BUT if you aren’t ready to take the leap with a card just yet, no worries at all. All the information I share will be here for you if and when that day comes.

Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® Mastercard® - American Airlines AAdvantage mileage program is especially good for European travel from the US.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® - This card is worth so much more than the $750 it claims. You just have to transfer the miles to United Airlines or another supported carrier. I’ll teach you how.

*Note: if you choose the AA card, make sure you sign up for a free AAdvantage number to start saving your travel awards points. If you decide on Chase Sapphire, I suggest you get a free United Airlines frequent flyer number for future use. FYI…Coupling a Chase Sapphire card with a United Explorer credit card is another GREAT idea. I’ll explain why soon.

Up Next…Understanding the Benefits of the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® Mastercard®. Subscribe now so you don’t miss out on anything! You will receive an email each time I share new travel tips and tricks.
