I can't help but wonder if I am the worlds’ biggest fan of Duchess podcast. Emma Duchess of Rutland is exquisite. She is full of strength, spunk, intelligence and intrigue and weaves her way through a really interesting interview-style podcast with grace. Truly, the only reason this podcast is ranked #4 for me is because it is quite specific in topic, versus offering a plethora of travel locations and ideas like other broader-topic travel podcasts. But if you’re anything like me and get giddy at the idea of a night curled up on the sofa with a cup of tea and Downton Abbey, or you simply swoon over a British accent, OR you love fresh examples of really strong women, you are sure to love Duchess, too.
When I once thought of a Duchess from my limited American point of view, I imagined royalty and maybe snobbery or high-life living. That’s just about it. I’m happy to report that all of my preconceived notions that this was the lifestyle of a woman living in heritage were crushed after listening to this entertaining podcast. How intriguing it has been to learn about the true life of a Duke and Duchess and their experience of living in heritage and caring for castles and community on the British Isles.
In each episode, the Duchess of Rutland interviews another Duchess who runs a castle or estate within the United Kingdom. It is brilliant. As a listener, you are transported into the true lives, the daily goings on and the struggles of keeping a centuries-old castle running. This is an homage to the strength, intelligence, honor and fortitude of women. It is a historical education. It is prim, proper and full of messy little cracks along the way.
My favorite thing to do is make a pot of tea, cozy up with a sweet treat and imagine myself across the pond as Emma’s accent soothes me into an hour of self care and fancy. Duchess truly is one of the most interesting podcasts I’m listening to these days. I want a travel podcast to transport me, inspire me and make me smarter. This one covers all the bases. Start with episode one and feel free to binge onward. I bet you’l love it, too!
